January 22, 2005 - SU Carburetors

On a cold and dreary Saturday in January, Ed and Carryl Howell opened up their house (and garage) to us so that we could hold our first ever Tech Day!  Ed presented an in-depth, informative and well thought out presentation on carburetion in general, with an emphasis on our beloved constant depression SU carburetors.

Here was our agenda:
    1. Cover the basic principles of carburetors with emphasis on SU's.
    2. Bench demonstration of a venturi and an SU carburetor.
    3. LUNCH
    4. Perform on-engine carburetor set up, synchronizing, and adjustment.
    5. Q&A
    6. Refreshment hour

Not only did Ed have wonderfully drawn flip charts and graphics, but he went above and beyond the call of duty by creating a mock carburetor complete with clear, lucite chamber and venturi, so we could see the effects of altering various adjustments.  Ed and Carryl - our hats are off to you and we all want you to know how much we appreciated your hospitality!
